Going in high style, from feathers to jewels! What do you think?
I assembled my embellishments, netting for a veil, boa of ostrich feathers and rhinestones and one fake bat with purple sparkle. My sewing basket and hot glue gun!
Laying out the netting, I start my running stitch to gather up the sides. With both sides gathered and pulled tight, I find the one seam on the hat and hand tack the veil into place.
Next I put a dab of hot glue one the back seam to attached the ostrich feathers. This is not the boa that drops feathers all night, I splurged on the really thing! Why, because I wasn’t thinking when I grabbed the bolt at the fabric store! Oh well!
Moving on, time to attach the rhinestones, not sure on to attach them, I think it is best to sew them on. Ha, that wasn’t the easiest way to accomplish this look of spiral jewels. It is hard to work with a needle and thread at the point of the hat. So what I did was hand stitched the first one on. After thinking about this next step, I decided the best thing to do was to hot glue the rest, so I need the hat to stand up and be some what firm. I stuffed crumpled up newspaper into the hat. Then I draped the rhinestones in the spiral from the point down and dabbed on just few spots of hot glue.
Since the spiral of rhinestones did not go complete down to the crown of the hat, that is where I decided to glue my bat! I chose the bat in memory that came into my house last year!
I love the finished look, it is a bit of glam, fun and whimsy! How is your hat coming along?
